San Leandro, Calif. Albertson's announced plans today to close four Northern California food stores effective November 1 at 6 p.m. The stores are located at: 1550 Canyon Road in Moraga 3420 Fruitvale Avenue in Oakland 1437 Freedom Boulevard in Watsonville 580 N. Rengstorff in Mountain View Earlier this year Albertson's announced they would be conducting thorough sales and earnings reviews and anticipated closing approximately 165 stores. These four stores are under-performing assets, and the Company was unable to improve their market position. The difficult decision to close these stores was made after the company exhausted their efforts to improve the stores' performance. "Team Albertson's can hold its head up high, as this difficult decision has nothing to do with how our associates conducted business on behalf of Albertson's," explained Northern California President Mike Patton. Albertson's is committed to its associates and to making this transition as smooth as possible. The Company is making efforts to place associates in other stores in the area. The Company will market the properties for uses compatible with each neighborhood. Members of Albertson's Division Office and Human Resource team informed each associate of the decision on Wednesday, October 10. As one of California's largest grocery store chains, Albertson's will continue to operate 470 food and drug stores throughout the state. Albertson's, Inc. is one of the world's largest food and drug retailers, with annual revenues of approximately $37 billion. Based in Boise, Idaho, the Company employs more than 235,000 associates and operates more than 2,500 retail stores in 36 states.
